Dessert Parties, are they worth doing?

On my last trip to Disney I first heard of these events called ” Dessert Parties ” and was intrigued to find out more. After reading about them I thought that they were a great idea but when I found out the prices for them I didn’t know if they were worth doing for that price. This time when I went to Disney I made sure to book some to test out if they were really worth the money or if you were just as good without them.

For those who don’t know a Disney Dessert Party is a package in which they offer for different shows. For an additional sum of money to your ticket, you receive desserts and priority seating for the certain show you have booked for. These are a great idea , especially if you are going to the parks in peak time and don’t want to risk not getting a seat for a show you want to see.

On my trip I did two dessert parties. I did the Fantasmic one and the Happily Ever After Tomorrowland Terrace party. The first one I did was the Fantasmic dessert party. We booked both parties over the phone 30 days before our trip to guarantee there was space for the certain days we were going to the parks. The cost, including tax, for people aged 3 to 9 was $19 and for 10 and upwards cost $39 each. We were told to arrive at 7:30, an hour before the show started , in order to allow us time to get our reservation checked, collect our desserts and drinks and get our seats. About an hour before we had to go sign in for the party it started to rain very heavily and just when we thought it was going to die down thunder and lightening started. It got to 8 o’clock and they still hadn’t let anyone in, due to the lightening , and were uncertain on if the show was going to go ahead but somehow, with a bit of Disney magic , the storm just stopped and we were allowed to go in and were told the show was going to go ahead.

First we went in and were told to go get our names checked off on the dessert party list. The woman signed us off and then gave each of us a special flashing ‘ Fantasmic ‘ lanyard. We were told to wear these so other cast members could distinguish who we were to make sure we were sat in the right place ( we also got to keep the lanyards ). Next we went and collected our dessert trays which contained a mix of goodies like cake and crackers. We then got to choose what drinks we wanted and received a souvenir flashing cup. After collecting everything we went to get our seats, we got to choose to sit anywhere with in I roped off section which was the very middle of the amphitheatre. Processed with VSCO with t1 presetThe show then began and as many of you will know it is an amazing show. I always get goose bumps watching it.  Overall I really enjoyed the dessert party and to me the money was justified in the souvenirs, treats and the seats we had. I defiantly recommended doing the dessert party if you want to add a little extra magic to your trip however I don’t think this dessert party is necessary to book if you want a good view of  Fantasmic. The theatre is a tiered amphitheatre meaning the seating is curved so you get a great view no matter where you sit.

The second dessert party we did was the Tomorrowland Terrace one for Happily Ever After. There are two parties Disney offers to watch Happily Ever After. The cost of the Happily Ever After dessert party is $59 for Plaza Garden viewing ($35 ages 3 to 9). As the firework show time approaches, a Cast Member will escort you to the Plaza garden viewing section. For this one you have as much as you want to eat an drink from the dessert buffet and then go and stand in the Plaza Garden which is roped of just to people doing the dessert party.
The second option and the one we did was the Tomorrowland Terrace party. The cost of the Happily Ever After dessert party with viewing at Tomorrowland Terrace is $79( $47 ages 3 to 9). For this party you are seated on your own table out on the terrace with a view of the castle. You also get unlimited access to the buffet throughout the night.

We arrived just after 8pm and went to sign in. They gave us wristbands to wear in case we wanted to go out of the area and needed to get back in. We were allowed to choose where to sit out of a selection of remaining tables and we chose to go up the side as there were less people sat on the side and we could also see more projections. Once seated we went to go get our desserts! There was a huge variety of desserts from fruit bowls to fresh made cookies. They also had the most amazing cupcakes I’ve ever had and their chocolate macaroons were something else. You also got an unlimited supply of drinks which ranged from lemonade to coffee and hot chocolate. My favourite drink of the night was a non- alcoholic apple cider.  I must of drank at least 15 of these that night as it was the best drink I have ever had!

The fireworks were amazing and I was so happy with where we were sat as you could see the projections clear as well. It was also nice to be sat down with plenty of space around us instead of standing and everyone being crammed together. Also it was nice to be able to get up and move during the fireworks if I wanted to go and get another drink of dessert. They play the soundtrack to Happily Ever After at Tomorrowland Terrace so you can still hear the music crystal clear. The best part of the whole show was when Tinkerbell flew out over the crowd as she flew right above our heads!

Although it is expensive the price was a lot more justified than the Fantasmic one in my opinion. The unlimited amount of food and drinks, the gifts and the view, it was all worth it. Another reason why it was so good was you didn’t have to wait around for hours to get your spot for the fireworks. This also meant whilst everyone was waiting in a spot all the ride que times dropped and we were just walking on to rides. Then once we were ready we just simply walked up and sat in our seats. The experience of watching the fireworks from a roped if area, without being crammed is really something else and I would highly recommend it. Especially if you get anxious around crowds it is a great way to experience the Disney magic without being shoved and surrounded by people.
